The Moon rose in the sky as Montag walked:

This is basically Ray Bradbury's way of saying, 'Clarisse is dead in body, but she will always be there when Montag needs her, or her ideas to help him.' This is pretty significant using one of the basic forces of nature that every person knows and has grown up with their entire life and making it a symbol of renewal and hope. I think this may be one of my favorite parts of the whole book just because of that line. It changes the perspective of every idea in this story, that Clarisse is still there with the society and can possibly help to save it with just a few words. 'Are you happy?'

We have everything we need to be happy, but we aren’t happy.
This quote says a lot. For one, it is talking about how people can have everything they could ever want, and everything they could ever need, but they still are not happy. I think this is true because happiness comes from the heart. To be truly happy, you need to be loved by family, friends, and everyone else around you. Objects bring pleasure and sometimes joy, but only love can bring you happiness. The same goes for the environment in F451. All the people of that society think they are happy, because they can’t distinguish the difference between fun and true happiness. Like Mildred only sees what is in front of her, she doesn’t see into people. It’s a sad thing when people have all they have ever wanted, and they are still unhappy.

The quote I chose was “It is because we’re so rich and the rest of the world’s so poor and we just don’t care if they are?” The people living in this civilization are well fed and all live in nice homes. They never go hungry and they pretty much have the money to buy whatever they want. The people around the rest of the world may be starving and have to suffer. The society in F451 doesn’t care about any of the other people in the world but themselves. Nobody stops to think about anything. They have been to distracted by everything to ever stop and think about the rest of the world. The rest of the world is mad at this Society because they all play while the rest of the world works hard. This is why the society is in a war right now.

"It is because we're so rich and the rest of the world's so poor and we just don't care if they are?" Questioned Montag when he was in a dispute with Mildred. And I agree, full heartedly. In a society where they're rich, well fed, and, in their mindset, above everyone else, why should they care? I know that they wont. It's how society is, even today. The rich are mostly stuck up, snobby, but that doesn't necessarily to for all people with enough money to be considered rich. Hence philanthropist who spend their money on people who need it. But, as it seems to be in the Monjag society, government is locking their free will, their ability to make any decisions and locking it away. And it’s true that a lot of people hate the United States now a days, but we’re the bully in the playground. Do we really think we can take on that persona and walk way with friends? We, as a whole, are naive if we believe such a thing. Another point to be taken, in Montag’s society, nobody’s caught up in other places in the world, they’re all made to know only their lives and not know anybody else around them. For example, when Mildred got her stomach pumped, Guy didn’t even know the medics who came to pump her stomach. They’re really kept in the dark. The worlds a cage, who’s gunna break free?

It's like the quote, "Those who don't build must burn. It's as old as history and juvenile delinquents. There's some of it in all of us," speaks to our class in a way. In Fahrenheit 451, the people that are think and the burners are the ones that follow what their government wanted them to do. Building, in our class, would be the people that go with the flow of the class and the burners would be the one or two of us that don't really like the idea and go against it. Usually, Mickenzy or I are the ones that don't go with the flow and that makes it seem like we are the ones that would be the burners, or in the case of Fahrenheit 451 we would be the builders. Whenever someone has an idea that most of the class agrees with, the burners, in our case compared to F451, are the ones that would be sort of hidden.

“We have everything we need to be happy, but we aren’t happy.-Pg. 82” -Faber

This quote is timeless. It’s just human nature to have everything and still not be happy. Because in life it’s not material things that can make a human happy, it’s smiles and love and listening. You can have as much money, as much clothes, as much of everything you can ever want but if there is no love and no education then there can never and will never be true happiness and contentment. The government can try to make everything fair, make everyone happy by distractions. They took away learning and thinking, and people were left filled with entertainment but deep inside they were not happy. Humans crave learning and expanding. I think in F 451 this quote inspires everything. Guy thought he was happy but in all reality he knew something was wrong. He wasn’t truly happy, he just had the illusion that he was, but since he was distracted he couldn’t distinguish the feeling of emptiness and sadness. Then when he started thinking, and that’s when he saw the injustice of his society, and he finally discovered the truth about his feelings.

Compared to our society now, I have to ask, do the characters in Fahrenheit 451 really have everything they need to be happy? Whenever I read any part in Fahrenheit 451 I can't help but compare their society to our society now. What is happiness really? Personally I think that happiness is whatever you think you are most happy with. If you are happy with books being burned left and right and living a lie, not knowing what else is out in the world, then that’s what your happy with for now. If you are happy with iPods in your ears, or a book in your hand, then that’s what you enjoy. In Fahrenheit 451 these characters are being forced into happiness. Is that really happiness, though? Ask your self “Even if I didn’t know any other world, would I like being forced to be happy?” Yes, they don’t know any different, but they know about books, and some know about what life was once like. Why doesn’t anyone act on it? Are they afraid to? How can they really be happy until they know what their other options are? In my opinion, the only way you can be happy is if you have an option on what to be happy about.

“We have everything we need to be happy, but we aren’t happy.” I think this quote relates to mostly all the people in this society so far. A good example of this is Guy and Mildred. They both live in a nice house, with 3 huge TV walls in the parlor. All day, Mildred just talks to the ‘aunts’ and ‘cousins’ like they’re her family. She always has her Seashells in, and she constantly needs something to distract her. Mildred has all kinds of fancy things, and she thinks she’s happy, but Guy can see she really isn’t, just like he realized he wasn’t. Mildred just lives being distracted and not ever thinking. She can’t live in silence and think about her life. Guy and Mildred barely talk because of the distractions, they just live every day the same. This is really like our world now. Actors/actresses can be a good example of this. They seem to have everything. Money, a good job, fame, they most likely can buy anything they want, eat anywhere they want, and a lot of times they get less punishment than a normal person would, but yet you find out one day on ET that they committed suicide. It’s also this way for just a regular person. They can have the best style and best clothes, newest iPod/music, latest cell phone, a huge house, a nice car, but maybe in that huge house, there is no family. It’s like they’re living with strangers. All they care about is material things and rely on them to keep them happy, which eventually wears out. It seems as though they have everything they need to be happy, but the thing that they’re missing is family.

I picked the quote "Those who don't build must burn. It's as old as history and juvenile delinquents. There's some of it in all of us"
I have to agree with this quote. For as far back as history goes people have been developing and growing and we continue to do so. At the same time we continue to have those people who destroy for various reasons. You have heard about wars since the beginning of mankind. Everyone of us has had that drive of anger that just makes us freak out. Not everyone acts on this anger though. The few people who do have made life not so fun for the rest of us. Some of us have more anger then other caused by different things. Even in our town we have non-criminals and then we have the criminals. I honestly don't think that will ever change. Even in the weird would of Fahrenheit 451 we have to builders and the burners. We have the firemen who burn books and destroy any trace of books in this world. We also have those teenagers who kill each other. At the same time we have those people who build new houses, create new technology, and invent new things.

"We have everything we need to be happy, but we aren't happy."
This quote definitely stood out for me. This quote defines my life sometimes, actually. I'll do lots of fun activities but when I think about it, I'm not actually that happy in other concepts of life. For instance, sometimes I don't feel like I have a best friend, but I'll be going to concerts and getting good grades in school. So, in a nutshell, I have everything that I should need to be happy but I'm not always happy. That is the same with Guy. He has everything he SHOULD need to be happy but he's not. Books make him happy and he can't have them. Clarisse makes him happy and she's dead. Guy does have books to read but it's illegal, so he can't read anywhere and everywhere. Everyone else in the society seems happy with what they have, but Guy wants more. He wants to read, because he knows what it's like. No one else wants to read because they think it's pointless and there's better entertainment!

"We have everything we need to be happy, but we aren’t happy."

This quote really just says to me that they have all materialistic things in life. Yes, money may buy happiness, depending on what makes you happy. But the thing is that you don’t need objects to make you happy, you need people, thoughts, love. If you surround yourself with people you love, you mom, dad, silbings, boyfriend, anyone, then you can live life happily. Things like cell phones or shoes or video games don’t make you happy, you convince yourself they do and buy more. People try to convince you that you’ll be happier with whatever they’re trying to sell. In F541 Clarisse was happy with her life, truly happy. This is because she would talk with her family and think and be adventurous. She didn’t worry about the materialistic things in life, that didn’t matter to her. And it shouldn’t happen to us. In the old days having a good time didn’t involve fancy clothes or cool gadgets, it involved talking with your neighbor, or your significant other. That’s the way it should be today. Let me ask you this, who’s going to be happier in life? A person that has everything money could buy, but lives life by themselve? Or the people who can’t buy anything, but are surrounded by the ones they love? The society today is becoming materialistic, relying on ‘cool things’ to get us by.
