Gatsby chapter 2... notables

Important Elements of Chapter 2...

Valley of ashes--separates the "haves" and "have nots"

River Styx--a mythological river in which the passing leads to the land of the dead---the Valley of Ashes in this case

Eyes of TJ Eckleburg--the eyes on the billboard symbolize the eyes of God

Myrtle--Tom's girlfriend...think about what she wears--the colors--as opposed to what Fitzgerald dressed Daisy in---significance???

Fahrenheit 451, pages 137-165--end

Find a quote from the reading to discuss. Make sure to include the quote or the subject as the first line of your post, then develop your thoughts about it completely, yet concisely. We now have the rubrics to use in the assessment. This post will be assessed, but more doesn't necessary mean better... make sure your comments are focused on the quote you have chosen--do not ramble.

The Cave... and F451

We read and discussed The Cave today in class. I would like you to draw parallels between it and what you know about F451. Look back to the allusions post and check out what Brianna had to say and what I responded to her. Have fun with this discussion... it should be an interesting topic for you to explore.

Fahrenheit 451, pages 3-68 BLOG #2

Hi Period 6 Students...

Using your list of allusions, please consult all of the allusions for part 1--The Hearth and the Salamander. Choose one allusion to discuss as it relates to the events/characters--elements in the novel. If the explanation on the handout is not sufficient for your complete understanding, please research your allusion on the Internet. Every student must choose a different allusion, so make sure you communicate before you begin to claim the allusion you would like to explore. Thanks for your hard work!!! :)

Fahrenheit 451, page 1-31 BLOG #1

When we meet next class, I will share the rubric that I will be using for your BLOG posts after this first time, and I will be looking for feedback on that, so as you write, think about the process you have to go through and what should be measured to judge the work you produce for the BLOG... until then, consider the following...

I wanted to ask about "happiness" or ask you to look at the stark contrast between Guy and Clarisse in this reading... or even ask you to observe how the foreseen technology is so very much like our ACTUAL technology of today, or---how about that Mildred, huh??? but I will keep this one more open and free....so, here it is:

What caught your attention as you read this section. What are your initial reactions? perhaps to a scene, or a character or to the plot itself... This one is pretty wide and open... make it count!!!
